Friends of the Library Lead Ongoing Drive to Sustain and Grow a Cherished Local Resource
The mission of the Pollock Pines Friends of the Library, a non-profit, volunteer organization is to support our library, and its patrons; by encouraging literacy and lifelong learning, fostering community connections, and offering programs and services that inform, engage and entertain. This is especially important in a rural community such as ours. We can only achieve this through fundraising efforts; including memberships, book sales, donations and endowments.
All funds raised by the Pollock Pines Friends of the Library are used for the purchase of books, eBooks, audiobooks, and periodicals; underwrite programs and events for children, youth and adults.
Friends of the Library - Forever Giving!
Friends of the Library is just that! People throughout the community who volunteer to help maintain and grow Pollock Pines Public Library.
FOL, in partnership with the Dogwood Garden Club, takes on needed tasks that include maintenance and improvements. However, one task has become very important - raising money for the purchase of new books for the local library branch.
Fundraising activities throughout the year -
such as book sales and soliciting donations - bring essential support to one of our most treasured community resources.
Donors Needed for New Books!
For the first time ever, El Dorado County will not provide any funding to the library for the purchase of new books or program funding. This means that the library will only have new books if donors like you give to the Pollock Pines Friends of the Library. Our community is relying on the library now more than ever.
Visit our library foyer books for sale and watch for our upcoming book sales - to be announced.
Please help us ensure that the shelves stay full and programs continue!
Thank you for your continued support. Your participation and donations (in any amount) make a big difference!
A Profile in Giving
Local residents and visitors might see the Library boxes picture at left, strategically planted around Sly Park. These little 'free libraries' were made by Cody Salyer in 2017.
Cody chose the project to fulfill a requirement to earn his Eagle Scout Badge. As with all Eagle projects, he had to get all materials donated, and present his plans to the Scout Board for approval. Cody then constructed five Little Libraries for locations in Sly Park, as requested by park management. Today, park visitors will find LIttle Libraries at Pinecone, Sierra, Chimney, and Rainbow campgrounds and at group area 1-4. Friends of the Library maintain the sites throughout the year.
Cody's project is yet another example of the important role volunteers and donors have played in the development of our Pollock Pines Library.
